Berlin Wall

July 15, 1986

I visit the Berlin Museum today, and then cross over Check Point Charlie to spend the rest of the day in East Berlin.  This part of the graffiti reminds me of Matt Groening artwork.  My summer clothes never arrived in England, an I'm photographed here in junky shorts and my Loch Ness Monster souvenir t-shirt.  Clothes in Europe were expensive.  Counting Scotland, I've been away from my London routine for 2 weeks, and didn't need to lose that much weight.  Don't you think the graffiti at the top of the wall in this photo is so ironic in context of everything I have published at the PanAm Flight 103 page?

The Berlin Wall graffitti also reminds me of the film ACROSS THE UNIVERSE.  One of the greatest films ever made.  A Beatles musical.  Those of you backpacking across Europe in 1995 may recognize the performer in the hatted scene here from a street performer you could have met that year in Europe.  Check your photos.

A favorite souvenir is the '15 JUL 1986' passport stamp you see above.  CHARLIE.  Four years later, on March 24, 1990, the Depeche Mode's dubbed performance on top of the twin towers of ENJOY THE SILENCE airs on Michel Drucker's French TV show Champs-Elysees. As you see from the passport stamp above, I'm in England for a two week vacation two days after that.

The nicest piece of Berlin Wall graffiti I saw was brand new.  Four years later it was photographed for an article in US News and World Reports.

July 1990.  The same month the Berlin Wall bird was published, I had to take the psych exam for prospective employment at  Delta Air Lines.  All new hires had to go for testing at Dr. Janus' office.  I will accept the job offer that is made the last week in September.
